A new dive location for me
A group of us hired a van from the university ‘taxi pool’ and went to the Dreams Beach Hotel where we rented tanks, weight, buoyancy vests and air for two dives in the morning / early afternoon. What a great time, and an incredible opportunity for me to try out my new Canon camera that I got with a waterproof box. I will put a few photos and video here.
This dive-site is the best site I have visited so far. The pear that runs out from the hotel beach, reaches the edge of the coral drop-off. This permits us to run the carts containing our tanks and equipment out all the way to our suit-up location. Then it is just a 10 foot walk and down the stairs to enter the water. RIGHT THERE…. You drop down into coral canyons and swim out though these amazing corridors which run out to open along the drop-off. We swam through a number of these and then out and along the edge both south and north. We saw more fish than any of the other places and after a ‘Sea Life’ presentation that I went to last Wednesday evening at the Library, I know a bit more about what to look for. I think the most interesting find was the nudibranch. Aleta and Fred will like this one.
From what I understand, a nudibranch is of the snail family but does not have an external shell, although it has some vestigial remnants inside its body. It has gills that protrude out the back of its body and wave around like a flag. This guy was only about an inch and a half long but what a beauty!

We also saw a moray eel. And Lion fish. I like the common name here better than what it is called in some of the books – Turkey Fish. 8-/ You can see photos of all of these by following this link.
